The beginning and ending were strong and raised my overall rating for the book. The beginning and ending were wholesome, heartwarming, and well-written. 

However, without such a strong beginning and ending, this would have been a 1 or 2 star read. Unfortunately, the entire middle section was verbose and uninteresting. Truly, the middle could have been greatly condensed.

This was so much fun. I learned so much about Russian history, but the tone of the book is really uplifting and joyful throughout. I think these characters will stay with me for a long time.
