I chose this book for the 2017 PopSugar Ultimate Reading Challenge prompt "a book that you loved as a child" and also used it for the 2017 BookRiot Read Harder prompt "read a book you've read before." Ramona Quimby was one of the characters that I loved most as a child, so I was excited to revisit this series as an adult and absolutely loved every minute of reading this book! The edition I read included a preface by Amy Pohler and an interview with [a:Beverly Cleary|403|Beverly Cleary|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1197935108p2/403.jpg] at the end--both of which made the re-read even more enjoyable.

I can see why Ramona appealed to me so much as a kid--she was in her own head a lot more than I recalled, a bit of a worrier, and just wanted to be left alone to enjoy some Sustained Silent Reading time. This surprised me a bit because I remembered Ramona as a slightly more mischievous character and thought I would've connected more with her big sister, Beezus. While the book is geared towards a young reader, it held up for me as an adult reader and made me want to re-read the entire series. The book expertly captured the thoughts and concerns of an 8-year old by placing Ramona in situations that an 8-year old reader can easily relate to, and shows a young reader that those sorts of feelings are normal. The Ramona Quimby series is one of the reasons I became a life-long reader and am so happy I got a chance to revisit it thanks to these challenges. Now, excuse me while I enjoy some more Sustained Silent Reading time :)

A true classic. I think I love it even more as an adult than I did in childhood.

Ramona and the stories that she could tell! I loved Beverly Cleary as a kid.

This one was always my favorite Ramona book, but I was sleeping on the earlier books in the series, because in a lot of ways it pales in comparison to them. There are definitely iconic scenes though--Ramona cracking the egg on her head, and throwing up in class, are classic Ramona (and every child) scrapes. For nostalgia, I'm still rating this one five stars although it may only deserve 4.

Read to Isabel. I’d never read these books as a kid but I find them super charming and not so dated.

Ramona never gets old!
Cleary is such a great writer giving all readers both the 8 year old girl perspective of the world and the adult “rational” view. I love Ramona’s tenacity and her strict demand for accuracy :)
I completely enjoyed reading this with my children. The only quibble I have - her teacher called Ramona a show-off? And possibly a nuisance? Not cool, Mrs. Whaley.
Timeless and so, so fun!!

Even though its been a good 18 years since reading the book (and I don't remember in its entirety now), this was the one that got me hooked onto reading as a kid. I remember going to my school library and constantly checking this book out till I bugged my parents enough to buy me my own copy (sadly lost it some years later)

Highly recommended for anyone just starting out in reading. You will fall in love with it.
