3.5 stars.

This is a hard one to rate. I love the artwork! The colors and the art make this style so intriguing to look at. Every page kept my attention. However, I just don't really feel like I came out of this book knowing much about the main character and there were some threads that we don't get much on and I would've much preferred those over Adams' narration.

James Sangster Jr. is working with M.E. Jose during an outbreak of vampires in Philadelphia. Disenfranchised with the lack of resources and government support, the citizens are turning to the new world order, run by Vampiric President John Adams. It's an interesting premise.

As the story unfolds, James Sangster Jr realizes his father was also turned before his death and they end up working together to try to stop the vampires.

I feel like we get a solid idea of who James Sangster Sr is. We learn about Adams' story and his goals. We even get some moments with Abigail Adams. However, I don't feel like James Sangster Jr was a character I knew a ton about - all I knew was that he had issues with his dad
Spoilerand apparently he's dating Jose (that came out of nowhere). I was disappointed we find out Brittany and her sister were vampires descended from slaves and turned after the Emancipation Proclamation because we only get one page of that story and I had a lot more questions.

Anyway, this was just the first volume. I'm kind of curious to see what happens next.
