I felt like this was a Crazy Rich Asians knock off and there wasn't enough that was original to hook me.
Dnf'ed at 59 pages. I really wanted to like this book however, the characters were really bland and un likeable. The different point of views just werent working for me.
It started off strong and it was easy to read, characters were fun to follow but somehow by the end it seemed like it was trying too hard?

If I had to personify this book as a person it would be a college student taking an introductory 100-level class but only shows up for the test days and somehow still manages to get a passing grade of a C+. This book had all the qualities of a solid, entertaining book but somehow, it just never came together. The characters all felt overly forced to be not 1-dimensional which only made them more 1-dimensional. The many different storylines dragged on as the author tried to cleverly tie it all together
but that somehow only made the pacing super slow and uninteresting. The writing was decent (definitely better than anything I could ever write) but it was also nothing remarkable. The only good about it was that it was set in an area I lived in for many years so it was fun to read about those places. Overall, very disappointing and could NOT get in it even though I gave it til about halfway through.

This book was soooo slow and I found all of the characters unrelatable and annoying.

This was a mix of the luxury of Crazy Rich Asians combined with the dysfunction of Arrested Development, but without the funny moments of either. The story itself was decent, although it was sometimes hard to sympathize with most of the characters - even when things were out of their control. Everyone was just kind of a mess, but the plot was good and the family dynamic was interesting.
Moderate: Terminal illness
