⛰ What It's About

Shirayuki continues her traineeship as a court herbalist and finds new challenges to overcome. She becomes a point of intrigue for the First Prince (Zen’s) brother which may cause trouble in the next book…

🔍 How I Discovered It

Continuation of the series.

🧠 Thoughts

Overall I thought this book was better than the first. I thought the characters had a bit more life to them in this volume which was good and I feel like we are getting a little deeper into the lore of the world and learning about the characters.
What I Liked About It
  • I liked the added drama of Prince Zen’s older brother coming back to the palace, that was interesting and adds a bit of “ooo what’s he gonna do??” sort of energy.
  • The illustrations are very beautiful and I noticed some of the scenes depicting movement seemed more accurate and easier to identify as movement in this volume which was interesting.
  • Characters seemed to have better facial expressions than in the first volume - the facial expression matches the situation/dialogue/setting/emotion more.
What I Didn't Like About It
  • I felt still in this book that the characters are a bit surface-level.
  • I found some of the illustrations confusing at times in this book where I didn’t understand what the images were because they seemed too zoomed in or lacked shading variation. This coulld also be partly due to being an inexperienced manga reader.
  • I wish we could have the books longer so you can really get to know the characters more, as I felt the characters weren’t developed much more than in the first book, still more though.

🥰 Who Would Like It?

If you liked the first book but aren’t sure if you want to continue as it was very surface-level in book 1, then this book does get a little more in-depth than the first and was definitely an improvement from volume 1.
