Slaughter is not for the faint of heart. Definitely a lot of trigger warnings in these books, but I love her writing style!

Gosh, Lina is a very damaged character.

First I need to start this review by saying that I really love Karin Slaughter. Her writing is fantastic and I am very much into the Grant County series. I try to write the majority of my reviews without spoilers, and this one will be no different. The story in "A Faint Cold Fear" is not as good as the stories in "Blindsighted" or "Kisscut", but still good none the less. All of our favorite characters return in the story and bring a great deal of enjoyment, but it was hard seeing Lena struggle so much. I am getting closer to the Will Trent Series and the merging of the stories and I cannot wait for that as well. Overall still a great book.

4.5 stars

Never have I felt the lack of a half star rating system on goodreads so acutely. The first 2 books in the series were good and I gave them a 4 star rating (although I wanted to give them 3.5). But this one is much better. As usual the author fearlessly jumps into gory details, not shying away from getting her hands dirty. But a couple of things make this book better, such as the pace which is perfect and does not drag at any point, or the plot which goes into places that makes the book hard to put down, and finally the characters. Sara and Jeffery as usual are interesting to read about, the struggles of their personal and professional relationship adding sufficient drama. What makes this story more impactful is Lena's character and her struggles, which is more difficult to read about. There are points in the plot when you feel bad for Lena, and there are times when she frustrates you to the point that you wanna pull your hair down and not in a good way! Lena's character though keeps up the pace of the book especially in the 2nd half.

After the first two books, I didn't pick up this book willingly. They were good, but compared to Karin Slaughter's other works that I have read, the first two books were a bit of a let down. But this book has put Karin Slaughter back into my good graces.

This one was harder to love, but that’s kinda the point, right?

Lena’s lost everything, Sara nearly loses everything, and like the title suggests, you have this faint cold fear running through your veins as you go through the book. You don’t know what’s happening, who’s to blame, whether you know the characters or not.

It’s tough, but absolutely worth it, Karin is a master of crime thrillers and writing such human characters.

The "Southern, good old boy, male chauvinist" trope ran deep in this book. While Karin Slaughter is my current favorite author, I found this book hard to stomach. Even the quippy comments Jeffery made about Sara "letting herself go" were out of place and took away from the storyline. This book was just too campy to take seriously. It is definitely my least favorite of her books so far.

Another amazing thriller by Karin Slaughter. I did not see that person as the villain at all. The description of the dead bodies is quite graphic for me but the story development is so engaging.
