3.5 stars. Not as good as the first two in the series.

Sarah and Jeffrey's relationship is so annoying! The ending also didn't make sense. Since he had access to a key, why brake down the door? If he was expected and had permission to Sybil's files, why brake the windows to get in. Lena also was annoying. All these men acting like fools and abusing women and none of the women put them in their place.

This third installment in the Grant County series is another intense, edge-of-your-seat thriller from Karin Slaughter. The characters continue to evolve in compelling ways—Sara as the determined medical examiner, Lena grappling with trauma, and Jeffrey trying to keep control amid chaos. The plot is dark and gripping, with themes like death, pregnancy loss, and addiction—so definitely check the trigger warnings. Slaughter’s writing pulls you in, and the series feels like it could easily become a great TV show.

Why did both of the main female characters end up in a position to return to men who are violent and abusive to others? Awful!
