This was my second attempt at the Emily Henry hype and I am so glad I liked this one! It did help more that it's dislike-to-love which is a trope I prefer. I really liked the characters of Charlie and the sister Libby. And I liked some of the plot! I think I've found that some things with Emily Henry's writing don't vibe as well for me.
- I find her FMCs pretty unlikeable... and dense? At least the two I have read. While her MMCs seem to be based on real people and are likeable, it's a strange contrast.
- I don't like some of the metaphors and descriptions. I'm still puzzled with the description that she could 'feel his laugh in her stomach'??? There were others that had me making faces or pausing while I read.

And for this book, the epilogue felt like it was written by another person or character and it was kind of odd. Could have done without. It took away from the ending for me.

Anyways I swear I did like this book quite a bit 😅

This is book I love dearly!
I picked it up after a lot of back and forth because I didn't enjoy the last Emily Henry book I read as much. But Book Lovers now has me in love with Emily Henry.
Nora is a literary agent and Charlie's an editor and they are (supposedly) rivals.
Nora is a workaholic 20 something and in order to bridge the gap that has began to sprout between her and her sister, she agrees to a month long vacation to a small town (featured in a book they both love) with her sister in order to rekindle and solidify their bond.
Nora as a character was my absolute favorite. She had depth, she had trauma, she had her motivations and dreams. You get to see her struggle with grief and the pain she feels because of the distance that has crept in between her and her sister. You see her dreams and what motivates her to be a workaholic. You see her fear and the terror inside her.
Charlie as a secondary character and love interest was also very fleshed out and human. You don't just see him as a love interest but also get to see the person he truly is inside. Although the book is completely from Nora's POV, Emily Henry does a great job to help us see Charlie as a real person and not just the hot, brooding love interest. You get Charlie's history and his dreams and his feeling right on the page.
I know this book is marketed as enemies to lovers but I don't think this is accurate. The enemies aspect is very quickly resolved and attraction starts quite early in the story. Moreover the romance feels like a secondary plot with the main focus being on Nora and her sister Libby's relationship and her overcoming her grief and trauma.
But don't let that stop you from reading the book. This is more of a pro, tbh! The deeper themes made me love the book so very much more and I think it adds a level of depth that isn't common in typical rom-coms. The banter between Nora and Charlie is so so good that I kept smiling and giggling and there are such wholesome and heartwarming moments in this book that it also made me shed a tear or two! The depiction of Nora's grief was so real for me it gave me chills a few times.
If I had to pick one thing I didnt like it would be the epilog. The third person omniscient pov wasn't my favorite and it felt a bit jarring to suddenly switch from Nora's POV to an omniscient POV.
All in all this was a great book and definitely a new favorite of mine! I wanna re-read it already!

The book is really wholesome. I love how Emily Henry took the tropes and flipped around in a most caring way. In a way that you feel she cares about the story and the characters. I love the pacing and if we had to do a chemistry test, these characters would most definitely pass with honors.
All the trope-fit-characters have a life and a purpose, so they don’t feel tropie, instead they feel real. They could be real people, and that's a beautiful thing when you're reading a contemporary romance. I love how you can tell who is texting based on the way they write, I love that they have a voice of their own. I love how the romance wasn't insta-love, but it wasn't exactly slow burn either. They build that up with a lot of tension between them. The smut scenes? Well done! None of the nonsense of "his sausage" you know? Just a little bit of awkward conversation that even Nora knew didn't make any sense.
I love how Emily Henry took a (literal) list of tropes and dismembered piece by piece and put it together in a slightly different way, not too far from the trope, not too close that we get bored.
And I can't even start to talk about the sisters' relationship. I'm a sucker for that, and it was so beautiful to watch (actually read) they get back together the way they deserve. Their relationship with their mom was so real, every relationship here felt real, actually.
It's 4+ stars. And I think the only reason it's not 5, it's because I'm not into romance that much.

This hilarious, beautiful book was something I didn’t know I needed. I love that despite its genre and sometimes emotional subject matter, it never takes itself too seriously. And the humor absolutely made me laugh out loud. This book also did something I never would expect from a romance novel: it taught me about myself. If you want a fun, hopeful, and funny read, I highly recommend Book Lovers ❤️
