Wonderfully illustrated kids version of this classic. Both my almost 4 and 1 1/2 year olds enjoy it.

I think this is the only book that I like the movie better. I listened to this one so maybe didn't connect with the reader. I just thought that I had to be close to the end and it kept going.

No sé por qué no leí este libro cuando era niña. Ahorita, a mis 30 años, puedo decir que es un gran libro lleno de aprendizajes. Lo recomiendo ampliamente para chicos y grandes.

After the mighty Les Mis, I fancied something briefer and more light hearted for my commute, so I picked Anne Hathaway's reading from Audible. I assumed I had read this years ago but I clearly hadn't. I haven't even seen the film the whole way through (I know, I know). So, fresh eyes (well, ears in this case)
The Book
Never having read it I was pleasantly surprised. Baum's foreword, detailing his thoughts on fairy tales of old and the need for modern versions is telling. He's managed to create a wonderfully vivid, modern (well, it was at the time) and different fairy tale to delight and entertain children of all ages. The land of Oz is bizarre and enticing, the characters we meet along the way fun and the morals are not too in your face. It's very episodic and brief but it fits the tale and there's a lot to like.
The Audiobook
I love Anne Hathaway as an actress and all round beautiful person but she is absolutely fantastic as a narrator. She clearly had a lot of fun reading the book, creating a wealth of silly and unique voices (I love her Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman has a wonderfully melancholy tone). Her dramatic reading really brings it to life and fits the style and tone of the book perfectly. My son's currently too young but I suspect this will become a favourite in a few years time. Well recommended to brighten your day.

comparando com outros clássicos similares a esse (ex.: Peter Pan, que tem uma linguagem mais tranquila e é destinado ao público infantil), a escrita é perfeita! parece ser mais cuidadosa nos detalhes e passa menos por cima dos eventos.
o enredo em si não foi muito uau pra mim; tipo, óbvio que eu gostei!!1!1! eu era obcecada por Mágico de Oz quando eu era mais nova e por nenhum motivo, sério, então >ler o livro foi divertido, porém avaliando o enredo da maneira mais crítica que eu consigo, ele não é la tudo isso -- fora que, embora eu tenha gostado da escrita, ela ainda não agradou 100% meus gostos para narração.
mas de longe, o que eu menos gostei foram os personagens. não porque eles são chatos, na verdade também achei todos bem ok, mas porque eles parecem planos demais. sem forçar, eles tem no máximo um traço de personalidade só, forçando eles tem mais meio. um grupo interessante de amigos, foi divertido ler sobre eles, mas ainda queria mais em relação a esse quesito

Una novela infantil, llena de originales ideas, la mayoría de las cuales ya conocemos hoy en día gracias a la fama de la película. Aún así hay bastantes cosas que solo salen en el libro, y que en mi opinión hace que, en lo relativo a la historia, sea mejor, aunque los méritos de la película son indiscutibles.
