I just finished reading this aloud to my daughter, which marks the first time I have ever read it. It was enjoyable, but I would have liked it better as a child, and movie familiarity (as different as the movie was) somewhat dulled the joy for me. My daughter appreciated an adventure with so many female characters. The populist parable was, happily, lost on both of us. It’s nice to know the literature major in me wasn’t even looking for it. For the most part.

I listened to this book and I was very surprised that it wasn't the same as the movie. Like very. Different. Loved the language from the 1900s:)

A timeless tale with an even more timeless message. Though the intended audience is clearly a lot younger than me, and therefore the plot sometimes a bit …wild, I really enjoyed my journey through the land of Oz.

comfort story but also i got bored bc ive seen the movie so many times LMAO it is not the book’s fault

Finally got around to this and found it fascinating, if a bit of an obvious Alice in Wonderland ripoff in this context. I vastly prefer the original film implying Oz is a dream, way more resonant than the weird expansion of Americana implied here
