I'd never read the book and was surprised at how different it was from the movie. I liked the book and the movie better at different stages. I loved Anne Hathaway's telling of the story. I now want to read the rest of the series.
I can never seem to make it all the way through the movie, so it's refreshing to enjoy the story. Everything is more understandable for me through the storytelling. Also, Dorothy doesn't seem like a blithering idiot stuck with useless characters. It's refreshing.
