The HarperCollins strike has ended, so I will review this now. I read this as a potential common read for my university. Like many multi-author collections, it has some really strong pieces and some weak pieces. The weaker pieces often were very basic, by rote, while the stronger pieces were truly moving and interesting. The piece by Azul Uribe in particular was fantastic; she is an author to watch, for sure.

This was just OK to me. I am not always a fan of anthologies, and just wanted there to be a more cohesive narrative arc overall. Each of the stories was compelling, all were heartbreaking, many were inspirational. The voices chosen were all beautiful. I just didn't love the body of work as a whole.
