A smart female main character who gives Sherlock Holmes a run for his money…I’m in.
This was a really fun read. Dr Kronberg is a great lead and I liked having Sherlock Holmes as a supporting character.

Can't believe I shipped Anna with Sherlock ehskldjkasg
I really quite enjoyed this! It wasn't anything groundbreaking, and after saying it was more gruesome than Jack the Ripper's murders I was kinda disappointed, but it was a nice listen anyways. Sad about the non-ending, but perhaps it gets mentioned in the next book as it seems it is continuing on from this one. And given the character in there, I'm assuming they're the one behind it all!
Cannot wait to get to that!
Anyways, Anna is a badass woman who pretends to be a man so she can be in the field of her choice in London, as it's illegal in Germany, where she's from, and solves crimes. In this case with Sherlock Holmes. I mean. Can I get an adaptation of this please and thank you?

I didn't finish this one. After seeing rave reviews on Amazon, I downloaded this for free. I love Sherlock Holmes and was really enjoying the mystery up until about the 30% mark when the author put in this totally unnecessary sex scene that really had nothing to do with the story and totally ruined the book for me. I couldn't take it seriously after the character behaved so seemingly out of character.

I really enjoyed this book. I believe the author has made good use of Sherlock Holmes in this story, and the interaction between him and the main character is quite interesting.
The protagonist is one Dr. Anna Kronberg, who must pose as a man in order to practice medicine, as it is still illegal in her time for a woman to have a medical degree and license. Therefore, she practices as Dr. Anton Kronberg.
Upon her first encounter with Holmes, he immediately deduces her disguise, but doesn't even threaten to expose her. They continue to work together in a case involving Cholera, Tetanus, and biological research that has less than honorable intentions.
"The Devil's Grin" seems to refer to the expression on the face of a person dying from Tetanus.
This is a very entertaining, engaging story that is part one of a series. There is a preview of the second book at the end of this one, and it would be nice, at some point, to obtain and read it.

I received this book as a freebie for joining the author's email list. It's a different take on Sherlock. How bad could it be? This book is basically well-written Sherlock Holmes fanfiction. I don't hate it but I didn't exactly love it either. I like it enough to continue reading the next book in the series.
Quite a thriller! As a Sherlock Holmes's fan I am quite delighted with the pastiche work.
