I haven’t read a book like this in a very long time - probably since the Girl on the Train?

An incredibly fast-paced crime/thriller novel about a woman on parole who is hired to be a live-in family maid. You can see twists and turns coming for the most part, but you don’t know the specifics and that’s what keeps you on your toes.

The change of POV at a critical point in the story didn’t leave me wanting more, in fact it answered some questions but also gave me a thirst for more answers.

The plot centring on the injustices of the prison system and how poorly women in abusive relationships are treated by law enforcement and the ‘establishment’ made it more impactful for me.

Other than the police chief person’s daughter being Andy’s ex (cliche, lazy, forced…), the ending (last chapter with Andy’s mum at the funeral and the epilogue with Millie being interviewed at a new place) chefs kiss.

This was a gripping thriller-enjoyed every minute of it! We’re led to think there is more mystery behind a certain characters actions, but all of a sudden, we are switched to a new POV and we realize it’s actually a different character’s mysterious past that we need to know about. I was surprised with the twist. The character development was strong and intriguing from the beginning. Frieda McFadden is the queen of dropping hints that make you want to know more.

Ms. Freda throws you through such a loop in the Housemaid you may get motion sickness from it! The new maid at the Winchester's home has a lot of secrets but as do they, whose will come to light first.

I really loved the emotional whiplash this book gave me you cannot help but to have a love hate relationship with all the character, there is so much to unpack in so little time it blew me away, I don't think I could have ever predicted the twists of this McFadden book. I appreciated the realness this book had to the situations behind closed doors, often in McFadden books I read some of the plots seemed a bit out there but this one, never once was that my mind set.

Is a must read for thriller and mystery lovers!
