Pretty good but kind of
predictable in the sense that you could feel a twist coming/ that things weren't exactly as they seem.

A bit slow to start

Took me a bit to get used to the main character's Brooklyn accent in the audiobook.

A lot of uncomfortable scenes
like Nina berating Millie, also some like very mild body horror

wish we go a bit more into the psychology of the main antagonist, aside from them having been abused by their mother in the same way

I have to admit, this got very dark and pretty scary about halfway through, so just fair warning!

This is not really the sort of thing I normally pick up to read, but it was good for its genre. Trying not to be biased because I accidentally had some spoilers and I’m sure I would have had a different experience with the book otherwise.

Well written and a fast read. Would consider picking up book 2.

Would have earned at least another .25 stars if it wouldn’t have mentioned how horribly fat (aka size 14 maybe 16, gasp) Nina is every 20 pages. (I know her body changing was part of her story but I got it the first three times).

definitely an “I support women’s wrongs” book and I enjoyed it

Millie is hired as a made for the Winchester family. Nina Winchester seems warm and kind, the job also seems too good to be true for the young woman out on parole from prison. As Millie moves into the Winchester house and begins her new position, she quickly discovers that her new employer is very hard to work with but the husband is easy on the eyes.

Whoa…. This book…. Oof!!!! There were so many twists and turns around every corner that I often felt as if I was getting whiplash. McFadden is very talented. I gave this a 3 star rating only because the content at times had me anxious.
