Short and sweet, without the drawn-outness and overblown angst of many of Thomas' full length novels.

I was pleasantly surprised by it! When I read the synopsis, I thought it was going to be way more angsty than it actually was, but it wasn't. There were some issues here and there but I thought the story still treated Isabelle really wonderfully. Honestly my main issue with the book is that I think it would have benefited from being a bit longer and I actually wish we got a previous one about Isabelle's first marriage. But otherwise, the benefit of it being as short as it was was the fact that there wasn't as much "angst".

Really great! I still harbored a lot of resentment towards Isabelle after her behavior in Ravishing the Heiress, so it took a little bit of time for me to accept her as Ralston's love interest. It was truly lovely to see her get a happy ending, though, and I ADORED Ralston.

Isabelle returns home to grab a family heirloom before leaving the area for good after Fitz breaks things off with her for his wife. Ralston notices his new neighbor is home and goes to introduce himself and is a bit surprised when she flings open the door, jumps into his arms and starts kissing him.
We soon find out that Ralston is almost a carbon copy of Fitz(who she thought was at her door), what follows is propositioning, friendship, letter writing and fun.

I read this because it was included in the MIDNIGHT SCANDALS collection with a Courtney Milan novella and I was intrigued by the concept. The set up itself is fairly fantastical, but it was the idea that the main character could have been so in love with one man, after eight years of being very happily married to someone else, and then immediately fall in love with another man, that I found difficult to believe. Still, it was okay. I might try some other books by the author.
