Nothing spectacular but a nice one day listen :) I liked the story. Basic, but not in a bad way because it was well done.

2.5 rounded up to 3.
Why do I keep doing this to myself? I always know Reese’s Bookclub picks are going to disappoint me… but the descriptions always pull me in and I guess deep down I feel like there has to be at least ONE that meets the mark. Unluckily for me, it wasn’t Lucky.
Call me a cynic, but one of my biggest book pet peeves is “Disneyfication”, especially when the main topic/theme is about something very serious. Horrible things are being done, serious crimes are committed, terrible judgment calls are made…and yet somehow all the characters come out unscathed thanks to the magic of long lost nepotism, incredible coincidences, and the goodness of people’s hearts?!? Come on. It’s so damn cheesy and eye roll inducing.
Like… I get Lucky was born and raised in that crime environment, but when you are somebody in your late twenties you should know better at that point. But because she is a “good person” on the inside we should be rooting for her as a hero? Even then… I’m all for an anti-hero, but I hate when the anti-hero refuses to embrace the fact that they are, in fact, not a good person. Lucky spent the whole book wading though a victim mentality and literally putting herself back in shitty situations.
It was fine to read, but the Disneyfication and the horrendously rushed ending was just incredibly silly.

Fun, light, quick read. Easy to get through and enjoyable.
the storyline was pretty interesting however, the progression of this book was slow for the most part until the last 100 or so pages. i initially picked it up because tjr's review is on the cover & it had a reeses book club sticker. with all this in mind i thought it was going to be this extravagant book but it kind of ran flat for me. it put me in a small book slump even though it only had about 230 pages.
