So disappointing. I did not expect this book to be great, but I didn’t think it would be a total waste of time. I enjoyed it initially because of my interest in psychology and thought it was well-written in parts but in the end the plot just didn’t add up. I won’t add spoilers but there are too many holes for my liking. Unfortunately you will have to read it to find out or wait for the inevitable movie when you are bored.

Spoilers aside, the main character felt pompous and self-important. And the "silent patient" herself hardly felt sympathetic enough. Good twist in the end.

(Having finished The Maidens by the same author last week, I have to wonder though if he is capable of writing books without psychiatrists, Greek tragedies and uncooperative suspects. Time will tell, I suppose.)
