I do love hearing the author read his book. There were some difficult parts to get through but it's always good to hear someone else's perspective.

This was a very interesting, simple, and powerful read. I have always loved Crews ever since seeing him in White Chicks. I think he to be a very versatile actor. And to learn he was a great artist was so awesome. I’d love to see more of his work. Guess I’ll have to Google some online, if he’s shared any.
My favorite part of this story was when he reconciled with his parents, and learned about their past and upbringing. It is so crazy how we see as a kid our parents until we become adults and parents ourselves.
It literally brought tears to my eyes to feel the ache and pain he had growing up as he and his mom and dad speak and try to rebuild their relationship later in life. Also very thought provoking and intelligent writing. I am so glad I got a chance to read about Mr. Crews.
And by the way, Terry, if you’re reading these reviews, you and I have WAY too much in common. Wanna know how? A few things to share: White Cap, the VA, General Lee Simpson. Don’t believe me? I would love to have 10 minutes of your time to discuss and maybe even share a few laughs along the way. You are awesome… ;)

I picked this up on a whim, and found it surprisingly interesting. I didn't know a lot about Terry Crews, other than having seen some of his work, but I admire his bravery in writing this. There are a lot of things that he did that were pretty terrible, but he learned and grew as a result, and I think that at the end of the day, he's a pretty good guy.

My perception and opinions on this book could be quite biased as I am a big fan of Terry Crews.
I am not one to read Biographies or Memoirs. On the surface, they never really appealed to me.
This book, however, has completely flipped my viewpoint on its head and given me a new appreciation for the genre.
I found this book quite visceral at its core, both visually and emotionally. This brutal honesty and expression of vulnerability create a safe atmosphere for inner reflection and understanding.
It is fascinating how people can traverse different journeys and come to the same collective understanding.
I would highly recommend the audiobook version narrated by Terry Crews himself.
Audiobooks narrated by the authors are naturally more engaging, but there is also something about how he reads that hits different. It is endearing hearing him swear in a calm but forthright manner. It speaks of his passion and intent behind the emotions he is expressing.
I would recommend this as an excellent book for those who enjoy emotional biographies or behavioural psychology.
