I wanted to like this more than I did. I enjoyed this book, in particular, all the politics and gentle romance. The friendship between Caldon and Kiva was a definite highlight as well. But I found a lot of it quite predictable, even though I predicted nothing correctly in Prison Healer. If you liked the first book, this is worth the read just to see how things unfold, but for me, it didn't quite hit as well as Prison Healer.

I got kind of lost in the first half but my god did it pick up again! Very glad now I have the next one ready to go.

HOLY HECK! The Gilded Cage is further proof of my theory that the second book of a series is always the best one, although I've still got book three to go (heading to the book shop ASAP to rectify that). The plot and characters were masterfully handled and I can't wait to see what's in store in the next book.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ couldn’t put this one down even though while reading it felt repetitive and drug out. There were new characters and places though and the ending, wow.

OMG! I hate cliffhangers but this was a great book once I sat down to read it. I’ll be getting the next book as soon as possible. I recommend this book strongly. It’s a thrilling story and I’d recommend this series to anyone.
