"Treasury of Greek Mythology" is a great book if you're looking for an introduction to the classic stories of the gods, goddesses, heroes, and monsters of ancient Greece. Over the past year, I have become really fascinated by ancient history and wanted a better understanding of what ancient peoples believed. I’ve had this book since I was a kid and came across it again in a YouTube video, which inspired me to pick it up. Additionally, it's free with your Audible subscription.
I'm so thankful that I read this book when I did because now, when I dive into books like "The Iliad" or even more modern retellings of Greek mythology, I have that foundational understanding of who these gods are and what their stories entail. This book will be a great reference to keep around for when I need to look back at a specific story that I may not remember in detail. The stories in here are about five pages long, providing all the information you need to understand why these gods are remembered thousands of years later.
I also think the artwork in the book is really cool; it captures that Greek vibe perfectly. I would recommend this book if you're looking to gain background knowledge on Greek mythology before diving into those popular retellings.

I really enjoyed the stories and beautiful artwork. The stories had a lot of information and I learned new insights, such as the insight about light coming first and the sun coming later.
I appreciated that the author mentioned the injustices, such as only the brothers receiving a kingdom, and the sisters not receiving anything. I like that the writer directly states how the gods/goddesses are, such as Zeus being entitled, and so on.

It's a nice general introduction. I don't know basically anything about Greek mythology so it was a good fit. If you know even basic Greek stories this won't be a good fit for you because the stories are so brief and glossed over so you won't learn anything new. Great if you kinda want to know the jist but not good if this is actually you interest.
My main critique with the book is the disrespectful way the narrator talks about this religion. The narrator mentions scientific facts and misunderstands how polytheist relate theor stories to history, and for such a short book it was unnecessary to even bring up. So that was kinda annoying.

Enchanting illustrations! the wording of the myths is simple enough to share with your 3rd graders and up. It has a very inspiring feeling to it.
