,,W sercach aniołow czasem mieszkają demony. W ciałach demonow biją nieraz anielskie serca."
Well, that was fun :) I especially loved the title story, which was wickedly funny. The second story was more in the three star range but still pretty interesting.
With Black Fairy Tale, I found myself thinking of the 1993 film Boxing Helena and then my mind wandered from that and I started wondering how much of the torso has to survive in order for a person to survive. Does it have to be below the waist or can the intestines be moved up higher into the body cavity? So now everyone knows a bit about the way my brain works and a whole lot more about this book. Especially if you've actually seen Boxing Helena.
I enjoyed the whole thing but the title story is the only one I would be tempted to reread. There were gruesome parts, although I'm only remembering them in Black Fairy Tale, but it wasn't 100% of the time. Still, if gruesome isn't your thing, I don't think I would read this. If you like horror and you can overlook the gruesome qualities, then this is one hell of a lot of fun.

"Summer, Fireworks, and My Corpse" was the first published work by Japanese horror writer Otsuichi. Written in 1996, while the author was still in high school, this novella shows the aftermath of the murder of a young girl, told from the point of view of her corpse. It's an odd story, and although quite interesting, it's awkwardly told and almost entirely without emotion. It's hard to say whether that was the fault of the author or the translator, but given that Nathan Collins translated [b:Black Fairy Tale|18690091|Black Fairy Tale|Otsuichi|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1382244031s/18690091.jpg|1485529] also, which I found both delightful and horrifying, I'm inclined to chalk this one up to Otsuichi's youthful writing at the time.
In this edition, the title novella is paired with the short story “Yuko”, about a young woman who takes a job as the housekeeper of a reclusive elderly couple. Over time, she comes to believe that the husband is insane. This is an excellent short story, though a bit wordy toward the end, but well worth the read.

This is surely the best light novel I have ever read. The book contains two short stories; namely, Summer, Fireworks, and My Corpse and Yuko. The edition I had read did not include Black Fairy Tale though I am sure it’s very good (it’s body horror and that unsettles me very much). The first short story was brilliant. Two kids trying to hide a dead body after one of them shoves someone off a tree? Sign me up, please. Besides, Midori will always remain one of my favorite characters; I really did not expect the twist ending about her. And the best part of it is that it’s narrated by the murder victim, even after she is killed.
The second short story was sort of meh for me, but the ending really sold it. It really reinstated the brilliance of the horror again, so that was nice to see. The protagonist (Kiyone) was also a very interesting character to read though. It was a bit of a slow read however.
Anyways, a terrific book!

This is the first time I've read 'J-Horror'. It was ....interesting? Parts of it I liked quite a bit, others I found less intriguing. This book includes 3 tales; I liked the first one (similar to Lovely Bones - but this came first and was youthful killers) and was ...lukewarm for the other two.
