I have to admit that I didn’t grow up listening to Leonard’s music and I definitely didn’t read his poetry in the past. I knew of him only because the Jeff Buckley cover of “Hallelujah” is at the top of my “most beautiful songs” list and I knew he wrote and sang it originally. I’m not even sure what made me pick this book up other than I love memoirs, music, and poetry, and saw this was getting good reviews. I’m so glad I did give it a whirl. Leonard’s words totally connected with my soul. His philosophical outlook on life, love, getting old, friendships, food, art, leisure, beauty, etc. are enviable and brought much comfort to me in a time that has held much upheaval and sorrow in our world at large. I initially listened to an audiobook version but had to rush out and purchase a print copy of the book because I need to be able to hold his words in my hands and revisit them whenever I have a whim. Beautiful work. I’m so thankful to his son for publishing this volume posthumously.

Leonard Cohen was probably one of the best, or THE BEST poetry and songwriter of this era.
