Easy reading. Great characters. Total nonsense. I just wanted to sit and finish it - as it was it took just two days. Perfect light holiday reading. Especially as it was an Amazon kindle deal.
The Year of Taking Chances is the stories of three separate women - Gemma, Caitlin and Saffron - who meet by chance at Gemma's New Year Party. It is an eventful year for all three of them, from pregnancy to separation, children, parents, partners, babies, business, parties, physical illness, mental illness, finance... a bit of everything! There's so much crammed in there must be something the reader can relate to!
It wasn't what I expected, but that's probably my fault because I didn't read the blurb. I assumed it was going to be about someone having a fun year based on their resolutions - maybe travelling, exciting activities, with the required romance to make it a chick lit novel. Instead, we have a standard sort of romance/motherhood/relationships book. It was okay, but much less interesting than my idea for the book!
Fairly well written with likeable characters and mildly compelling. Basically: it was okay, but nothing special.

Great stories but seemed a little unfinished. Gemma's story was the best as it seemed the most complete, albeit sad but I'm glad she was rewarded. Could I have some of her drive please?
I also enjoyed Saffron's sections but I'm sad the baby isn't born by the end so we miss out on whether the baby is ok.
Caitlin's story is a little slow, nothing really seems to happen.
Overall very easy read but quite slow storytelling so the ending feels a little rushed.

A fabulous story about taking chances (obviously!) and a massive leap of faith. If you're looking for something funny, inspirational and feel-good, then treat yourself to Lucy Diamond's new one!

A soap opera style book where you follow the lives of three women with intertwined lives after they meet at a new year’s party. Had a sleepy sensation throughout the book when the story unfolded and found the last too chapters to be quickly finished. Felt as if Lucy wanted to end this book fast and start her new book project asap.
Would recommend if you’re into deep rooted chick-lit. However, not my cup of tea and will gladly donate this book as soon as a get the chance.

Because love is always worth the risk…
It’s New Year’s Eve, and Gemma and Spencer Bailey are throwing a house party. There’s music, dancing, champagne and all their best friends under one roof. It’s going to be a night to remember.
Also at the party is Caitlin, who has returned to the village to pack up her much-missed mum’s house and to figure out what to do with her life; and Saffron, a PR executive who’s keeping a secret which no amount of spin can change. The three women bond over Gemma’s dodgy cocktails and fortune cookies, and vow to make this year their best one yet.
But as the months unfold, Gemma, Saffron and Caitlin find themselves tested to their limits by shocking new developments. Family, love, work, home – all the things they’ve taken for granted are thrown into disarray. Under pressure, they are each forced to rethink their lives and start over. But dare they take a chance on something new?
I liked this book a whole lot more than I was expecting. I had just finished reading The Perfect Match, by Katie Fforde and my expectations were kind of low – having that book been a bit less stellar than I had hoped.
The Year of Taking Chances follows the first months of a new year of 3 very different women. Gemma, mother of 2, with the perfect husband, is suddenly at a loss when her loving husband suffers an accident that leaves him unable to work and depressed. Having to earn money, which she hadn’t done in years and trying to save her marriage at the same time, she finds two friends in Saffron and Caitlin who become her pillar.
Caitlin is dealing with the death of her mother and just having found out that her boyfriend was cheating on her. A little lost, with no idea who or what she is, she soon discovers that she’s adopted and finds her solace working with Gemma and Saffron. Oh, she also finds the love of her life.
Saffron lives in London, on New Year’s Eve she’s trying to make a big decision. Will she keep the baby? She just found out that she got pregnant of a guy she was having a casual relationship with. She doesn’t want to tell him, because he’s already got 2 kids and mostly because she’s not sure she actually wants to keep it… This is my favorite storyline of the three. I just loved Saffron!
I really liked the writing, even though we have three POV’s with their own storyline, we get developments of every single one of the ladies through the others eyes.

Hmmm. Think maybe I’m 5 years too young for this book as I don’t have children so couldn’t relate to parts of it. Also found parts of it unnecessarily negative and upsetting. Made me realise what writing styles I like and don’t like as parts of this I had to skim over and stop myself throwing the book at a wall. But did like the little plot twists littered throughout and the ending.
