2018 review:

The last two issues of this volume were easily fours stars, but I wasn't quite so impressed with the first three issues, so I'm giving this three stars.

The art was good all the way through, and the story was interesting enough, especially the last two issues.

Mostly side stories to fill out the background of the Secret Invasion. Not all of them are great but they are necessary for a better understanding of this crossover. The final issue (Luke Cage/Jessica Jones storyline) is very well done and probably the high point of this collection.

More background to the Skrulls Invasion, including during House of M, and a bit of what the villains were up to.

It ends with the start of Dark Reign and Luke and Jessica discovering Skrull-Jarvis took Danielle, which is the main reason I came to read this series after jumping into Dark Reign!

This is another collection of side stories that takes place during Secret Invasion. I wanted to like this more than I did. Some of the stories were really good and some fell flat. I liked Jessica Jones/Luke Cage's story and the Hood's Syndicate of Criminals comic, but the others weren't as compelling for me. None of the stories seemed to further knowledge or the plot from other texts. Points that were brought up in Book 1 weren't resolved here. It was a little disappointing considering some of the other texts in the event.

For: fans of superheroes/comics; readers wanting a set of supplemental stories on the larger plot.

Possible red flags: characters in peril; violence; blood; death; invasion and hostile takeovers; torture; kidnapping; family tension; brainwashing.

Another Anthology series that takes place before and during the events of Secret Invasion. Unlike it's Mighty Avengers counterpart, though, all the stories in this collection either feature members of The New Avengers, or part of their rogues gallery.

There wasn't a single weak issue in this collection. Lots of Skrull intrigue, and emotional stakes that are hinted at in the main title get some spotlight time here.

If you enjoyed the main Secret Invasion storyline, this is definitely worth reading as a companion piece.

This was not fair! I was going along, enjoying the comic, and then BAM it was House of M all over again.
Literally.
It cut to the House of M plot and I had to watch Hawkeye devolve and Wanda try to end mutant kind all over again. I WAS NOT WARNED! UG so unimpressed right now.
But otherwise not a bad comic.

A little disappointing. The story wandered away from the New Avengers. Mostly a backstory.

Alright this one is a 3 star book because it solid, enjoyable all the way through in all of its Bendis structure. He’s got a method to his writing that I quite enjoy.

You may have noticed I’ve rated it four stars. I did that because the last issue of this collection is #47 and it’s so damn good. Another one I’d love to have in my long boxes. If anything pick this up for that issue alone.

4 stars and a tear stained page.
