Still loving this binge-read, though this one was a bit more chaotic (and not in the best way). I’m deep in my Finlay Donovan era and Jumps the Gun continues to deliver a mix of mystery, humor, and Finlay-style chaos—but while I had a blast reading this one, it didn’t hit quite as perfectly as the first two books.
In this third installment, Finlay finds herself enrolled in a citizens police academy (yes, seriously) in a last-ditch attempt to solve the mystery of EasyClean—an online contract killing site that’s hit a little too close to home. The setting shift makes for some hilarious moments and unique scenarios, but at times the plot felt like filler. That said, the characters continue to be the heart of the series. Vero is still an absolute scene-stealer, the slow-burn romance takes a few interesting turns, and Finlay remains as loveably flawed and relatable as ever. Even when she’s in way over her head (which is… always), you can’t help but root for her.
The pacing does slow a bit in the middle, and the mystery felt more convoluted than the previous books, but I still devoured this in one sitting and had so much fun. The cliffhanger ending pulled me right back in, and you better believe I've already downloaded book four!

As the third book this one felt the most outrageous. They’re stuck with a bunch of cops and literally just sneak by. Still entertaining but I am still team Julien. Nick is just too good and boring.

Ah! I just love the Finlay Donovan series. However, this is my least favorite in the series so far. I do have hopes the series picks back up though. It definitely feels like this one was making way for what’s to come & tying up loose ends from the previous two books. Overall, I love how funny & unserious these books are & they are definitely a favorite of mine.
