The Fault In Our Stars

John Green

3.99 AVERAGE

This is a re-read for me, so no surprises. This time, I read The Fault in Our Stars as an antidote to reading a badly written novel about a teen with cancer, and like eating chocolate after broccoli, I wanted a good taste in my mouth again. Green's writing did not disappoint. I'm just in awe of the words and ideas he ascribes to his teen protagonists, and of how he imbues them with such humanity that I care about them like family. Five stars, John Green, five stars.

It was an ok read. Nice and quick. I enjoyed Helen and Augustus and their perspective on life, the world around them and their own predicaments. I was never emotionally engaged however and finished up not really interested one way or the other.

I just finished this book and it is so utterly brilliant that words cannot describe how beautiful it is. It just has the perfect balance of humor and tragedy. I practically cried when a certain person passed away. Also I love that the characters don't actually try to be characters, they are just always there and always will be as if to say "yes,we are here where else would we be?!" And the love that they shared is like no other that I have heard of. =loved it

idc if it’s cliche or whatever, i loved it

I loved this book. I cried and cried. Everyone should read this book. I read it at the recommendation of Chelsea's 15 year old stepdaughter. Ironically, I had the book because I had purchased it for Josie over a year ago. Because of the sensitive nature of the topic, I had asked Chelsea to read it before I gave it to her. Chelsea left the library copy sitting out and Josie read it then. I spent time with her last week and she talked about the upcoming movie release and her love for this book. Read it - you won't be sorry.

⭐Plot - this book is about two cancer patient. One survived, with a limp and a mission to imprint himself onto history, and another one clinging onto a miracle and an oxygen cylinder. Seeing how an illness affects and often changes a person was great to read abt too.

Characters- nice, is all i can say. Hazel is a little funny but that's about it. Agustus is interesting, I liked reading him. But none of the other characters are worth talking about.

Writing- it felt too fast paced at times which made this book less memorable for me. Otherwise it's quite OK, easy to read.

⭐The quotes are lovely but impossible, that is, neither of these characters seem like people who would say that. They are people who are having or had near death experiences, so I can understand them having profound thoughts, but them being able to express it so well without being well read or without being writers of any kind felt weird.

⭐what i learnt- the moral that, you don't have to be an old person in a history text book for your life to be worth it, all you need is a few people who will cherish you forever more, is so beautiful I loved it.

Do I like the book? Yes
Did I still give it 3 stars? Yes
Should you read the book? Yes

Every time I read this book, I hope it hurts less, and it never does, but it is so so beautiful.

It's often difficult for me to find YA books that are both extremely engaging and extremely well written, but this one definitely lived up to my seemingly impossible expectations. Maybe it's too pretentious to say that I really enjoyed the philosophical rantings and ideas throughout, but I thought that, in addition to all of the obvious research necessary to write a book like this, is kind of what makes John Green a good writer.
