I must disclose that I am not really a horror fan. I saw this book recommended on a psychological thriller book page and someone had gotten a tattoo of a symbol on the cover, and I thought, wow, if someone is getting a tattoo, there must be something really meaningful about this book. I did not find much meaning in this book.

If you want a book that will absolutely creep you out, this should be about a 5 star read for you.

Even within that category of creepiness, however, I just found the book recycling everything over and over again. You need to know that the reader does not get closer and closer to solving any mystery as the pages turn. In fact, I think it is important for the reader to know that there really is not any sort of twist, satisfying conclusion, nor ah-ha moments, nor vanquishing the foe at the end. If this happened, I definitely would have moved this to a 4 star rating, which means a satisfying and intriguing read.

I will say I appreciated the characters who belonged to Native American communities. They were not trope-y and I think make the reader appreciate and curious about their history in a respective way.

Things that were included that did not make any sense and were not adequately explained:
* The missing engagement ring
* The purpose of the dream catchers - what does touching them or not touching them do?
* How did this creature take physical form in two different places? There are still laws in fiction and fantasitcal settings.
* Why can people clearly hear the creature, whereas in the past it just seemed to be of legend?
* I am still not satisfied with WHY the creature bothered Faye, nor how her plan or her secret finally conquored him (supposedly)
* Why were there REALLY 5 flicks of lights and the number 5 on the inside and outside of the windows?
* Why did the creature seem to be able to NOT cross a barrier but also CROSS the barriers? This probably is the most troubling "scientific" issue for me.

In conclusion, if you like creepy just for creepy sake, go ahead and read this. But this book wasn't for me.

I enjoyed the intensely creepy scenes and imagery in this book! The writing was decent, captivating and descriptive. The ending fell a little flat for me but I still really enjoyed it. 3.5 stars !
