Incredibly creepy and excellent for the first 7/8. Unsettling psychological horror made manifest well written with a steady ramping of confusion and anxiety. Made me start hearing things and checking windows, would have been a 4.5 if not for the unsatisfyingly pat ending

Fae's meaning of 5 reveal and her solution to it was so banal and unremarkable, it poppped all the tension. The fact that the imposter just accepted the answer after haunting her for a lifetime and just walking away made no sense. And it made Tiwe and Nathan's deaths so pointless.

so happy this stupid book is over. i refuse to dnf but i was getting so close. 2 stars only bc the prologue had me thinking this would be at LEAST a 4 star read but the rest of the book just fell flat for me

re-read in 2025: i changed my rating from 4.5 ⭐️ to 4 ⭐️. i still think this story is interesting and scary, but this time i didn't feel so creeped out - maybe because i was reading an e-book, instead on listening to an audiobook like the first time.
2022: 4.5 ⭐️ rounded up. it was so good! but the ending could be better :o(

I loved this so much. It was actually a terrifying story and genuinely creeped me out! I wanted to give it 5⭐️, but there were a few things that weren’t explained. Overall though, it was a great horror read!

3,5. Spännande, faktiskt läskig i vissa stunder och en hyfsat bra story. Har känd länge velat läsa en historia om just typen skinwalkers då jag tycker de är så obehagliga. Karaktärerna var lite störiga ibland, men visst måste det ibland göras konstiga val och dylikt för att det ska hända något ibland. Faktiskt riktigt bra lyssning.

The first third was FANTASTIC, and then it devolved into a white man writing Indigenous stories and I’m not interested in that.
