Props to HP for being a bit morbid and emo, but Lovecraft does not age well. Racist, misogynist, xenophobic, the characters are flat and clutch their pearls at anything vaguely interesting or out of the white/male/cis/rich norm.
Honestly, a character named his black cat a slur. There are works that are "of their era", but others (like this) seem to revel in hating minorities, women, or any slight outsider.
