Julie Garwood books hew to a pattern. Alpha males, often in leadership (of a clan) or law enforcement type roles. Smart, strong females, often sassy. The men may think they need rescuing, but usually they’re pretty capable. Multiple romances among close friends. All those elements are here set in an old-west setting. And like many (but not all ) Garwood romance, the hero is a bit pushy about the fact that the heroine should fall in love with him, but the heroine’s not afraid to push back.

I enjoyed, but didn’t love the book. It was heading for two stars (which is “OK” ) on my 5 star romance scale because it started to feel too much like novels I’ve read before even though it was set somewhere else. But then, there’s a plot twist that perhaps I should have seen coming that elevates it to three stars.

I gave up less than half way through. It starts out like it is going to be really good….but then it just dragged on…not really anything happening.
Ok…Coles reluctant….check…..the girls are pretty…check……can we move on now?
It’s like the story can’t make up its mind what genre it is?.is it a romance novel….maybe….but not quite. Is it mystery…maybe…..drama?…maybe…..a western? I suppose.?……Yawn.

I thought the premise of this book had the possibility of being interesting - not knowing which of the women in the book was the the witness to the bank robberies, but I was very bored with the rest of the book.

A fast fun read. A bit predictable but that's ok. An enjoyable story.

I didn't like how it took her half the book just to fully set the scene, and then she tried to squeeze 2 mediocre, unbelievable romances into about 1/4 of the book.
And her male characters have definitely declined. Julie Garwood, what happened?? When did your big strong, stubborn, rude men turn into frilly little puppies?
In the Highlander books, it took the female protagonist being in some sort of life threatening danger for the guy to finally realize he loves her as he races to save her. And that's after a decently long period of time. The guy is also rude and inconsiderate and unemotional, but the woman sees right past it and loves him anyway.
What does she do in Come the Spring? He decides he loves her after about 3 days and has sex with her, calling her all sorts of things such as "pretty" "sweet heart" "baby" etc. What in the world happened to you??? I want more stories with the Highlanders.
I was tempted numerous times to just put down this disappointing book and move on to my newest Stephanie Plum novel

I think this is my favorite of the Rosehill series - I just love Cole so much! He's tough and gets things done, but is also so tender - and I loved reading scenese where there's a baby or little kid involved because he's so good with them!

This is definitely a fun series to read!
