Daniel får låna en bok av Julius Carax som leder honom till Molinder, fumero och en präst som alla gick i samma skola. Lång historia om hur funero börjar förfölja honom, hur hans liv blir till Julius liv, och sen när de träffas.  Julius är grovt brännskadad från att ha försökt bränna upp alla sina egna böcker.

Ultra misogynystic, the female characters server no other purpose but to advance the plot for the male protagonists. But heck, the book hit me like a tight slap of sadness. Zafon plays with feelings of loss like a master. The ending is a tinge of many colours.

It also used the backdrop of the Spanish civil war to tell a tale about the harmfulness of stereotypes and rumours. It's characters are of many layers, and Zafon uses 'redemption arcs' if you will, to tell you to not judge a book by it's cover. To not believe in what you hear from other and not make presumptions about a person based on first impressions

A slow, sensual meander through back alleys and dilapidated mansions, between pages and stories. Modern gothic is all about the creation of atmosphere, and Carlos Ruiz Zafon certainly knows how to do that. It also made me really curious about the book at the center of this novel—now that's the thing I want to read.

(2017 )Vienas iš tų šiltų, jaukių, įtraukiančių, kaip močiutės sakydavo "nors prie širdies dėk" kūrinių. Atsiverti knygą ir rodos įkrenti į tą pasaulį, nuo pirmų puslapių veikėjai tampa artimi, lyg rašytų apie senus pažįstamus. Meistriškai sukurta pokario Barselonos atmosfera, o jei dar esat joje buvę! Prisiminimai ir vaizdiniai iš pasivaikščiojimų po ją tiesiog sukosi galvoje nuolatos. Maža naudotų knygų parduotuvė, paslaptinga biblioteka, meilė knygoms ir rašytojams, gyvenimas, aistra ir mirtis, tai - tik keletas mane suviliojusių temų.  Ši knyga turėjo viską: įtemptas siužetas, stiprūs, intriguojantys veikėjai, nuostabi atmosfera, o kur dar nepriekaištingas humoro jausmas! Su šia knyga ir juokiausi ir ašarą braukiau. Nekantrauju tęsti savo pažintį su Carlos Ruiz Zafon ir antroji knyga jau mano lentynoje :).
