I really enjoyed How to Cure a Fanatic by Amos Oz and so I was really excited when this book was picked for book club. It's a collection of interrelated short stories set on a kibbutz in the late 1950s. The illusion of utopia is questioned when, through each of these stories and in meeting each character, you realize that the members still experience jealousy, sadness, loneliness, and they each question what it means to belong but also feel apart and unique.
"She stood barefoot at the open window and said to herself that most people seem to need more warmth and affection than others are capable of giving, and none of the kibbutz committees will ever be able to cover that deficit between supply and demand. The Kibbutz, she thought, makes small changes in the social order but man's difficult nature doesn't change. A committee vote will never be able to eradicate envy, pettiness, or greed."
I enjoyed meeting the characters in early chapters and then revisiting, if even only briefly, in later chapters. I wrote down so many quotes; these pages are filled with beautiful thoughts and words and I wanted to start again at the beginning as soon as I had finished.

"Tvoje dvije cedulje uvijek nosim u džepu i stalno ih nanovo otvaram i čitam. Želim da znaš koliko cijenim svaku tvoju napisanu riječ, i još više od toga, divim ti se zbog onoga što mi nisi napisala."
