This is another "it's me" DNFs. I found it over-written and generic, but I can see a lot I would like if I hadn't just read a whole slew of over-written and generic books. It's a good premise with interesting characters on a really cool world with a straight forward "you know the chorus" type plot that could be very soothing, if it didn't feel like a car trip song that just won't end for me in my present state of mind.
So don't really put any stock in this, nothing was wrong, I just don't wanna.

4.5!!! So surprised how much I enjoyed this and really grew to love the two main characters we followed throughout. Ready to dive into book 2!

Interesting and multi-perspective fantasy with some great takes on 'constructs'. I sadly foresaw the major plottwist from 300 pages in the future, which is why the novel bored me mostly, but apart from that it was nice. Cool characters, queer rep, interesting story, I just found the world-building and underlying politics a tad-bit confusing, but maybe I didn't pay enough attention.

I didn't dislike this book, I was just kind of... bored. The only characters I cared about were Jovis and Mephi, and I'm not sure that's enough for me to continue on with the series.

I went into this book not knowing what it was about and came out loving a creature named Mephi.
Only reason 4 stars is that I figured out one is the big secrets pretty early on in the book so when the reveal came I kinda knew it already.
