Buddy reread with Amrita Goswami!

The HP series meant a lot to me. This one was my favorite though. It's not hard to see why. Time travel is a tricky plot device, but is handled very nicely.

The quidditch commentary is always fun. Divination is ridiculous, and provides comic relief. A lot of the world is expanded and introduced.

The only thing which struck me during the reread is the way Hermione is treated a bit like a second string friend at points. Perhaps because she's simply more driven to academic pursuits while Ron and Harry enjoy quidditch together. It's slightly less focused on developing the trios dynamics.

Lupin is fantastic. This is also the book I read when I want to eat lots of chocolate. The buckbeak storyline was excellent and is would have been nice to have more classes, more Hogwarts, but then more is never enough.

Scabbers/Peter Petigrew = my favorite red herring. He is genuinely one of the most vile characters in the whole Harry Potter franchise. Also, who cares about the inevitable plot holes when we introduce time travel? Not me!
