My second read by this writer and, though I liked the other more, this one was a good read. Fits that hard to fill spot of the easy read that isn't dumb.

A really wonderful, charming little book. Funny and heartwarming, with some really compelling storylines for the characters. The interwoven lives of the characters were lovely to read, and the characters themselves were brilliant, especially the delightfully written Mo and the pityable Cyrill. Would definitely recommend this for a nice comfort read, with enough mysetry to keep you hooked throughout.

"And now, the news where you are." So begins the regional news anywhere you go in the UK apart probably from London. And so introduces our main character here, Frank Allcroft, depressingly funny man - you know the kind, tweed jacket, touchy feely (in other words has no sense of boundaries) and the unfunniest man in Europe with a wicked set of jokes.

I really enjoyed Catherine O'Flynn's What I Was, and was looking forward to The News Where You Are. Unfortunately, it felt as though a different author entirely had written this at many points; it has a very different feel to it, and none of the immediacy that What I Was comes with. The novel is readable enough, but it never really goes anywhere; it is certainly more involved in mundanity and the minutiae of life than anything else. The News Where You Are is rather a bland book, with quite dull writing and characters, and I found it almost instantly forgettable. It failed to hold my interest.

I'm half way through this book, which I'm reading on my iphone. I downloaded it because the range of books on iBooks is very poor.
I've got to say this is pretty lame and dreary.

An easy read with well-drawn characters. The plot felt a bit meandering, although it managed to surprise me a little at the end.

idk if it's just the other books i've read recently, but i just felt so much appreciation toward this book for feeling 'real.' whatever that means. no gimmicks or devices. which are nice sometimes, yes, but i guess i wasn't in the mood.
