This book was DELICIOUS. The setting was everything - so unique and different to anything I've read before, Bray expertly weaves the nuances of the 1920s authentically throughout the book to enhance the reader's experience. The characters were well developed, diverse and realistic. Although the main character was compelling, I was not always sympathetic to her plight and yet this quality makes me like her more. Brilliant writing on Bray's part. The plot was interesting, albeit mildly convoluted and seemingly convenient at certain points. A very solid read that made a lasting impact.

I love love love love love this book. It's a ghostly fairytale/bedtime story that I just LOVE. I love the characters and this 1920s New York. I can't say "love" enough when talking about this book. This time I am audiobook-ing it. Rereading so I can jump into the 2nd book right after.

What an awesome, fun, smart, creepy book! Bray is such a great author- interesting characters, plot twists, and dynamite research. I'm going to miss this roaring 20's bedtime ghost story. Looking forward to the next in the series!

This book was wonderful and fun. There are so few (good) YA books set in the 20's. Evie is a little grating but the plot, the characters, everything was good. A very quick read. HOWEVER- The second book isn't coming out for at least another year, a huge gap between the first and second which is odd. The cover of the second book also looks horrendous. Oh well.

The beginning and introduction of all the characters was a little slow going for me, but once the ball starts rolling it rolls. I'm a little upset with 2015 me who dropped this at some point

There are aspects of the book that I enjoyed and I loved most of the characters but unfortunately I just found it too slow for my taste.

DNF 20%. Evie as a main character I just can't stand she is unnecessarily naive, thought I was going to enjoy the time period but I found it just didn't do it for me.
