4/5 🌟 I devoured it. Did I know it was going to be up my alley??? Pretty much.

I mean Siren b2b Dark Powerful King b2b Wings b2b Magically Binding Bargains????? Come on the concept was speaking to my soul from the get go.

The dual time perspective in each chapter gave me insight, similarly to how a prequel would?? so I could see right when certain moments affected Callie then vs. in the present. I was 50/50 on how I felt about that. It felt like miscommunication, but upon completion I had better perspective & understanding.

Does the dialogue get a little gushy and corny at parts? Yes!! But if liking that’s a crime, cuff me because I ate it up.

I also have an aversion to a blonde MMC- not my type - but Desmond Flynn, there’s a first for everything.

Tropes:

Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
Paranormal & Fae World
Dark Magic Broody Morally Gray MMC
~ WINGS ~
Second Chances
Fated Mates
~ Magic Bargains ~
Slow Burn

This one’s for you😈

i wonder how many times the main character says the phrase “my past” in this book. probably about 100 times id say

kind of just a knockoff acomaf. giving it 2 stars bc it scratched the itch, but at what cost

heavy grooming. Very childish language and couldn’t get into the smutty scenes because the main character was speaking like a teenager even as an adult. The whole story was very difficult to get interested in because you have a lord of night wearing ACDC shirts? just not my cup of tea. Hated it and couldn’t finish.

Make a deal if you dare? Oh, I dare!

This book had been on my list forever and I really loved it. It’s high fantasy but a contemporary setting on Earth and the Otherworld. It’s plot driven, with a lovable FMC, and a such a good slow burn romance.

Callie is a siren who runs a PI firm with her best friend. She uses her powers of persuasion to nab the bad guys. But one day, the worst of the bad guys, the Bargainer, calls in Callie’s debts. She should be scared of him but the idea of being forced to be around him doesn’t scare her like it should after all these years.

The pacing was so slow and we rehashed the same inter monologue the entire 375 pages

I read this so quickly - it was a great, fast-paced fantasy romance. I found the “grooming” element to the story a bit creepy but ultimately I enjoyed the romance - I guess she was technically an adult at 16 but it was a bit creepy. But I know loads of fantasy draws on tropes like that (e.g. Labrynth).

I enjoyed the plot as well, I though the scene in the nursery was really creepy and the author did a great job of creating a tense atmosphere during the moment with the Thief. It was a perfect balance of disturbing and mysterious and I’m excited to see where the story goes.

🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 for spice - it was quite good. The slow burn was great and I absolutely swooned when he said “you didn’t think the king of night would just be gentle did you?” 😮‍💨🥵
