- McEwan’s writing is so meaningful whilst remaining accessible, perfect style for me
- loved the family bits, not so much the government bits
- got really into it towards the end

maybe it's just his style of writing but I had a hard time staying interested in this. It bounced back and forth too much. I wanted to love it but it just didn't engage me at all.
I was daunted to pick this up by the flap copy -- I wasn't sure I wanted to read a book about a missing child. But as it turns out, The Child in Time is only partly about that. More broadly it's about the nature of time and memory, birth and dying, decline and renewal. I'm still chewing over it. But I always enjoy reading McEwan. Like most of my other favorite writers, he has a distinct style and art to his sentences that keeps me coming back and provides pleasure even if other aspects of the book fall short. He also has a dry sense of humor and a certain rhythm. I like being inside his mind.
Prose written by Ian McEwan is as good as any poetry you will come across. There is a nuanced lyricism in the way McEwan deals with the mundane and everyday.
McEwan is love. McEwan is life. :p
