Try as she might, Stella Richards cannot escape destiny. She can’t outrun it, she can’t outsmart it and she can’t change it. No one can. Generations of Richards’ women have fallen to the same fate of giving their heart and body to a man who wouldn’t be around long enough to appreciate it. Why should Stella Richards be an different? She’s a pretty girl who is smart and determined to make something of herself, the same kind of girl who thinks she has life all mapped out. What she doesn’t take into account is that destiny may have it all planned for her and the harder she pushes against it, the more ferocious destiny is about proving its point.

When she meets Stefan Sterling, she doesn’t know anything about him and it seems as if he is just as clueless about her; this makes his pursuit in getting to know her seem a little strange at first. Only in town for a short while, he wins her heart and in the most intimate of moments they bare all to one another. Unfortunately, being teenagers, their lives are not their own and they are forced apart by adults who fail to see past the end of their noses. Hopeful and sad, Stella carries on, gripping onto the strings of promises that Stefan left behind. Despite her unspoken fears, she knows it was more than a spring fling or summer love and she holds onto the notion that Stefan feels the same.

Accepting that her purpose cannot be complete without him, she waits for Stefan to return to her. But destiny has plans that cannot be foiled, and their reunion is where the true test begins. Stella thinks destiny is mocking her, but it’s really putting her right where she needs to be.

“The harsh reality hit me, I couldn’t do this alone.”
