Safe Harbour

Boring predictable and Matt's character is a little weird

Always enjoy the light read of a Danielle Steele, despite already knowing what is going to happen. Steele follows her set formula, and while it is repetitive and predictable, it continues to work. As usual I got drawn into the characters. I guess I am a sucker for a good romance novel!

As a child, I loved prowling through my grandmothers' vast bookshelves and it didn't take me long to learn a couple of household names. There were whole shelves dedicated to such regional classics as August Šenoa, Miroslav Krleža, Ivo Andrić, but also entire sections of Jules Verne, Zane Grey (ever and forever pronounced as Zah-neh) and... Danielle Steel.
The latter's covers and titles vividly signalled the romance genre.
I wasn't into "books for grown-ups" back then, but I kinda promised myself to read at least one of hers once I reach the age.
And here we are...

I liked "Safe Harbour". It was simple and predictable and it contained quite a few "Televisa presenta" moments - but it suited me, somehow. It reminded me of the old Mexican soap-operas
that used to be a fixture of Croatian households' lunchtime back in the late 90s/early 2000s.
You know the shtick: two improbably good-looking, extremely kind and good-natured human beings find and struggle to keep a hold on each other as devious background characters contrive to break them apart.
It was a cozy read, and... I would like modern romance writers to take this to heart:
- it's actually okay to write about two decent human beings meeting and entering a healthy, mutually supportive relationship. Readers won't hold it against you if things between the two seem to be working, honestly. ;)

A great ending

Safe Harbour was very slow at the beginning, I nearly left this unfinished. But Pip was so interesting and so was Matt. So I keep going on until I realize how cute the story really is.

Pip a twelve year old girl whose mother is a stunning still grieving widow, meets another wounded man Matt. All three of them have common experiences in love and betrayal, which forces them to find Safe Harbours within each other. Despite how they don't believe in second chances, life has different plans for them!
fast-paced

her books are awesome not much I can say about it besides read it :)

Wow. This was an emotional roller coaster. A story about a widow and her 12 year old daughter as they work through their grief. This was my first Danielle Steel book and I am not surprised it sold so many copies.

This is a sweet story about overcoming loss and finding happiness and new beginnings. I was so impressed with this book. It definitely isn't the deepest or most realistic, but it's feel-good and uplifting. I adored watching the romance grow (this is coming from someone who doesn't like romance in most books) as it was slow and understandable, and the sweet friendship between a hurt artist and grieving widow and her daughter was adorable. This is kind of one of those books that you can read when you're down and it just makes you feel better.
