I have really enjoyed both The Phoenix Pack series as well as The Mercury Pack series and can't imagine not reading either of them. If you are new to this series I suggest starting from book one of The Phoenix Pack series and stagger it with the Mercury Pack series (in order of release date) to stay on track to read SAVAGE URGES. Both series take place in the same world and include the same characters so in my opinion it is important to read them together and in order to get the full story.

Ryan has always intrigued me so I was happy to see that SAVAGE URGES was his love story. We got to learn more about his background and what made him the grunt-y, unsociable guy he is. Mckenna is the new character to the storyline. She is a lone wolf with a deep seated need to help other loner wolfs be safe and find their places in the world. I really liked McKenna. I was very quickly able to connect with her and care about her character.

Like any other book in this series, the relationship the characters is HOT. McKenna and Ryan have an immediate connection to each other, but also an immediate annoyance with the other. The step on each others toes and push their ways into the others personal space where the other feels uncomfortable, but they also quickly grow on each other and become a team.

The pack has a very prominent role in the storyline as usual. I love seeing them again and catching up with the past love stories and seeing what they have been up to. The world is great, the characters are always interesting and easy to want to get to know, the action is always plentiful and the mysteries always keep me on my toes. I will continue to read both The Phoenix Pack series and the Mercury Pack Series.

This author really doesn't change her stories much, they all seem to be less interesting versions of her Feral Sins book, which is my number one "I'm embarrassed to admit I have read this and liked it so much" guilty pleasure book. I suggest just reading that one and don't bother reading any of the sequels. They're nothing that new or different.

SAVAGE URGES is book five in the Phoenix Pack series and my first to have the opportunity to read. I do have to say that Ms. Wright did a wonderful job of ensuring that this book will stand on its own while engaging my curiosity about the rest of the series.

Wolves in a pack have a huge prejudice against lone wolves. They think that all of them have done a heinous crimes against the pack and have been kicked out. That isn't always true as Makenna knows well. She is a volunteer for a homeless shelter for lone shifters and she is fiercely protective of them. Right now she is trying to help a young teenage wolf Zac who has ran away from him pack and won't disclose why. Makenna has found an uncle of Zac's and finds herself strongly attracted to him.

Ryan is a protector for the Phoenix Pack and not what most women would consider an ideal man. Tall, dark and handsome but he was taken and tortured when he was younger and still not comfortable around people. Yet he finds himself undeniably drawn and protective of Makenna especially when you add in the fact that an Alpha from another pack is trying to take over the shelter.

This book have a lot of sex and sexuality but if you take all that away , SAVAGE URGES has a good strong plot. The villian is suave, charming and have some kinks that just aren't acceptable. When his reasons for trying to take over the shelter come out, they will bring a chill down the spine.

I do recommend SAVAGE URGES to my adult readers who enjoy paranormal romance. It does have a lot of sex and some of it is pretty rough though consensual so younger readers might want to steer clear.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.
