Brooding Ryan
Ryan of so few words and McKenna, the hippy wolf. I lived their story, it had the humor the sass from kenna and the fierce loyalty and love from Ryan, who knew from the start she was Hus! I loved the storyline, although the main plot with the shelter was just, ugh. Guess the shifter wold can have sickos in them too. I loved how Ryan never gave up and in the end made kenna see, she was where she needed to be.

Urgh! I am seriously on a book high with this series! M & R are hilarious! Especially with her superstitiousness

The romance itself: 5 stars, so I’m rating it (moreso) based off of that and the found family and shelter aspect, which I absolutely adored.
However, hugeeee trigger warning for child abuse, child sexual abuse, incest, and brief mention of child death
It’s not descriptive, but it’s a major point in the plot and is mentioned constantly. If that bothers you, I suggest skipping this book. And for that part of the plot, the book was a smooth 2, because it felt like there could have been MANY other reasons for conflict other than this specific one.

Graphic: Child abuse, Death, Incest, Pedophilia, Sexual violence, Violence, Blood, Death of parent
Minor: Child abuse
Ryan and Makenna are probably my new favorite couple.
They both have a well-rounded personality and great chemistry. I loved Ryan's no-nonsense attitude and actual character traits which informed his actions and decision. I loved that Ryan simply decided on Makenna and was not suddenly sexually overwhelmed by her presence like some of the others. And he acts on it (view spoiler)
Sadly, Zac was a good starting point but quickly pushed to the sides. He was mostly forgotten after the first few meetings and (tiny spoiler for the next book) barely mentioned there as well.
This did all happen a bit too fast but oh well. It still has many of the other tropes the rest of the series suffers from but the main couple elevated it above the rest. (I totally could have done without Makenna's sad backstory and resolution as well as the shallow "let's help the shelter" scene.)
The setting of the shelter was also very nice. It both showcased a new part of the world we haven't seen yet and added some nice (and needed) worldbuilding. We also get back to the council, if with a slight/large Phoenix bias. Remy, however, is the third (?) villain we have that has a cliche motive (view spoiler) and was absolutely not necessary.
