4.5. Although this was a little slow to start because of the multiple storylines, it brings you into the history of Spain, and makes you want to learn more. WTF was that ending though? I saw many of the twists, but not that one. Please tell me there is a sequel?!

This book was excellent. It is clear straight on and fulfilled in the ending that this novel has a straightforward meaning and purpose for having been written. I fell in love with the characters and towards the end of the book, I felt like I was grieving for them. It was a beautiful, emotional, and eye-opening experience to read this. The character development was also fantastic. The only issue I had was that before I got about two-thirds through the book, I felt like it dragged on and was a little bit slow. Little did I know that every small detail that Ruta Sepetys included in this book during the slower parts would ALL be answered. Every detail fit together PERFECTLY and I was quite satisfied. Sepetys surely spent many years (I think it was eight years if I recall correctly? I read some background on this book) researching, and it pays off. This novel feels very authentic. It was amazing, and my jaw physically dropped during multiple moments (that I shall not mention as to be spoiler-free). Please please PLEASE pick up this book, it is definitely worth it. It’s very heartfelt, deeply touching, and powerfully raw and inspirational. I’m definitely going to read more of her books, probably all of them; I already got my hands on a copy of her book Out of the Easy. Also I forgot to mention, Sepetys your writing style is stunningly beautiful! Thank you for writing this piece of art. Also, I love how even though this is a YA book, it feels very fit for adults too. It’s at a very sophisticated and mature level, but definitely appropriate and understandable for teen readers as well. 4.5/5 ⭐️

The Foutains of Silence is a beautiful love story, but it's also so much more than that.
Ruta Sepetys makes you fall in love with her characters, and you don't even realize that once again, you are learning about a forgotten historical tragedy.
I was left empty and heart broken.
A book that everyone should read.

3 1/2 stars. Good, but not my favorite Sepetys novel. For as long and detailed as the story is, I feel like I wasn't immersed in Spanish culture and didn't have a clear sense of the setting. While I appreciate happy endings, especially these days, the hardships were resolved too swiftly and the ending itself was abrupt.
