Exactly my vibe, but Part V onward felt a little extraneous to me and could have been covered in a  brief epilogue without losing the tension and catharsis of those paragraphs just before Part V.

I picked this up as the blured mentioned two thing's: theatre and Greek gods. I. Surprised to say that I haven't read many books based on the theatre  I was really interested to see what this was like, especially mixed with actors making deals with gods.

This did have a very slow start. But once it got going I was unable to put it down.

It does get graphic with some scenes but i wouldnt call or horror, its more disturbing and it may trigger some people.

Each Laura Purcell book I read becomes my new favourite. This one did not deviate from that expectation!  I think, because it focussed on well known plays and the theatre world, it held extra appeal for me.  I love her knack for writing creepy malevolence, with just a little (often jaw-dropping) gore along the way.  Handed this on to a friend within hours of finishing it - i need to be able to discuss this with someone else!
