umm… yeah.
I don’t know if I didn’t like this book or if I just didn’t get it. It was fairly easy to get through though, and it still was kind of interesting, but what the fuck was that ending.
I read this solely for my psychology class, and I don’t think its memorable enough for it to transcend that. Will I read a book by this author ever again? probably not.

Per una vita intera mi sono sentita dire che un vero rapporto può nascere solo nella vita vera, che quelli nati in altre maniere non avevano il loro stesso valore. Da quando sono arrivata su Instagram ho conosciuto tante persone diverse e anche se tante non le ho mai incontrate o non ne conosco il vero nome, non posso negare che con loro non mi sia trovata bene come con le persone che frequento fuori dai social, che non mi abbiano aiutato a crescere come persona, a migliorarmi, o solo farmi passare qualche ora piacevole passando a parlare degli argomenti più disparati, fosse la trama di un libro o le sovrastrutture sociali che sembrano ingabbiare chiunque. Ecco perché ho apprezzato questo libro, dove l'autrice, raccontando della sua corrispondenza con un militare di stanza in Iraq (occasione inoltre per una splendida riflessione sull'obesità e sulla grassofobia), fa un elogio della scrittura epistolare, di come questa porti a tirar fuori la verità tra persone anche se non si sono mai viste - aveva ragione Oscar Wilde quando scrisse 'Date una maschera a un uomo e sarà sincero' -, anche se spesso la natura stessa della relazione epistolare non garantisce che l'intimità che si è creata mediante la scrittura possa mantenersi spostando il rapporto a un piano reale. Insomma, cento e qualcosa pagine, ma molto intense da recuperare (in formato cartaceo ma anche in audiolibro!)

Creo que éste pueda ser el libro que menos me haya gustado de Amélie Nothomb. En general, el intercambio epistolar entre el soldado y la escritora no me han seducido, y ya el final me ha terminado de matar.

Hacía mucho que no leía a Nothomb y tenía este en la estantería cogiendo polvo. Me ha gustado reencontrarme con ella y su particular forma de escribir, no puedo decir que no la disfrute porque la verdad es que me fascina. Mi única pega con este libro es el final, que me ha sabido a poco y no ha terminado de cuadrarme, para mí no está a la altura del resto de la historia que, en forma epistolar en su gran mayoría, te atrapa.

This book was really odd for me. I have mixed feelings. If I’m reading it as a work of fiction, it was just okay. The protagonist was not very endearing. If I read this as semi-autobiographical, I really didn’t like it.
If this isn’t autobiographical, why use her own name as the main character. Were we supposed to somehow relate to her, or even like her? It was all a little too snooty for me, and I honestly couldn’t get past my dislike.
