This book offers an in depth view into trauma on a micro and macro level, looking at neurological research and societal elements.

Matè challenges the concept of what society deems as normal in order to keep the status quo, and clarifies the fact that this myth is what allows corporations and governments to ignore the reality of human struggles for health and well being.

Rather, ignoring reality contributes to addiction, trauma, and mental illness, without offering programs, support, and solutions. So much research and statistical evidence overlaps to create a picture of what is truly happening in our lives, our society, and the oppressive systems that deny it all.

From illness to addiction, abuse to climate change, these are not new issues, we are only recognizing them and voicing concerns in spite of the powers that try to quell these truths.

The next steps are for humans to reverse roles, to gain power through collaboration and challenge the few at the top. It seems we are mobilizing to do this, and I for one, am ready to be part of this tide.

There are a lot of observations and interviews in my opinion and not enough case studies or research.

A revolutionary read! Wow!

tbh I think this could rlly be summarized in one sentence: trauma is complicated and it changes you. I just feel like it’s way, way, way too long and just repeats the same point with slightly diff focus or anecdotes

What an eye opening read. This book came into my life when I (unknowingly) needed it most and I’m so glad that it did.
