Igniting a Passion for Reading: Successful Strategies for Building Lifetime Readers by Steven Layne

There were some great quotes, some good activities, but a lot of fluff in a short book...Layne obviously has a great passion to find ways to light that fire for his students.
I will add a couple of ideas from his toolbox, and will use several of those quotes in my own work. Glad I read it, just wanted more. Honestly, this book almost convinced me I could write one just as good...

I found many of the ideas common sense, useful and exciting, as well as doable. I really enjoyed the points about building text and library literacy particularly.

I enjoyed the book, but I felt that it was really directed to classroom teachers. As a homeschooler, many of the author's strategies would seem odd. (I only homeschool 1 kid... maybe if I had a bunch, I would feel differently)
Overall, I like the writing style, and I was able to take away some tips to encourage the "will" to read, but the classroom audience of the book made it less helpful to me.

Middle school teacher talks about the importance of several strategies for building readers--book chats, reading aloud to students, modeling love of reading with students, etc. Nice!
