It was much like her other books: hard hitting and emotional. The themes were fantastic, the turmoil of being a mother, of pro-choice, and being brave enough to love. I’m so glad I got this book because damn it was good but sad at the same time. So many generations of woman who were not able to be or do the things they wanted

I can't believe this book has been sitting on my shelf untouched since 2019. What??? It was so good 👏🙌 It took me a bit to get into it, but more and more I found myself eager to listen to it which isn't common for me with fiction audiobooks. I truly had no idea where it was going 80% of the time 😅 every twist was new and surprising to me I swear. 

The magical realism in this book was 🤌 There were so many times I honestly couldn't tell if the magical elements were real or not. Even when they meet the

banshees on the flesh, I wondered whether this were all in their heads

. 

I loved the switching back and forth in time between modern-day Deena's POV and the story of her family's history. That could've gotten really convoluted, especially on audiobook, but I managed to follow along perfectly fine. I also adored the narrators (those Irish accents 😍) and want to read everything they've narrated now.

I absolutely LOVE that it was all based on real historical facts in Ireland and that it was all about how women, especially queer women, have been screwed over for so long and now need to break their silence and break this curse, that they have the power to do so. The author's note made me cry, and my God I just loved this book. I actually really want my book club to read it, I think they'd really enjoy it too!

A stunning yet devastating story about family, untold stories of mistreated women throughout history, and breaking the cycle. This is truly a beautifully written book that I will return to again.
