This was an excellent book. Combining the talents of two great authors was a master stroke. I’ve always loved Kate Quinn and Janie Chang is marvellous in her own right. The book covers the time of the catastrophic SanFrancisco earthquake in April of 1906. Gemma is an aspiring soprano opera singer. Nellie is an up and coming artist. Su-Ling is a talented young seamstress who lives in Chinatown. Alice Eastman is a 60-something notable scientist. All live in San Francisco at the time of the earthquake, and the four are literally thrown together in attempt to put a stop to a rich San Francisco financier who will stop at nothing while he’s building his fortune. The scenes of the earthquake in the book are breathtaking and the way it affected so many lives is clearly outlined. These four women all were badly damaged by this man and they join together to track him all over the world in order to bring him to justice. It’s a real page-turner of a book and I never wanted to stop listening. The book is about real people and real events of this horrific catastrophe. Highly recommend.

Kate Quinn's historical fiction books are always solid.  I enjoyed the San Francisco setting of this one.
